invitation to participate in an anthology of one letter poems

What is a letter? You can look for historical sources, e.g. in Ancient Egypt or in Ancient China (in general, if something is ancient, it probably has something to do with searching for letters). So I will be collecting graphic files - a given work should contain one letter, preferably a new letter.

The first variant (I encourage you to do so) is designing letters. Come up with a new letter, and send me a graphic file with that letter.

The second option is to send me something resembling a letter. So the easiest way is to take a photo of, for example, a twig that looks like a letter.

There are of course many other options, such as:

Scribbles resembling a letter (not a specific letter, but something like a letter).

Symbol/sign - but not a drawing, unless it's very minimalist.

A single (even existing) letter, but placed in an interesting context.

Transforming an existing letter.

Other options - look for something yourself, think about it. Just in case, I'm not looking for mail-art (so it's not about letters as in mail, but about letters of alphabets - or outside of alphabets).

As for combinations of letters/characters - what counts is that it all should form a letter-like shape, not a clear combination of characters. Also when it comes to repeating one letter, there is also such an option, but I would not like the anthology to go in this direction.

Multiple works can be submitted. There will probably be a selection of works (e.g. I do not accept photos of feet or kittens). As for photos of hands with fingers arranged in the shape of a letter, photos of a letter placed on a poster, for example, why not, as long as it does not infringe copyrights and is artistically interesting.

The result will be a pdf file posted on the internet. The file will be in A4 size, vertical. When someone sends a square-shaped file, it's ok. A rectangle arranged horizontaly - well, a dilemma arises whether to turn something or not.

People taking part in the project keep their author's rights. You can send me new one letter poems or old ones (as long as it's fine with the copyrights of other publishers, for example when you have signed a contract or promised not to publish the work anywhere else). But regarding this anthology - you can publish the pieces you send also in other places. It's all non commercial, so don't expect money from the project, but you also don't pay to take part.

And if someone has no inspiration, please look for examples of minimalist Chinese calligraphy, look at #oneletterpoem or #wierszjednoliterowy on instagram, and google anything about letters, minimalist poetry or designing letters/symbols in general.

Send your works to szrenp@yahoo.com before August 31, 2021.
